What We're Doing Now

What We Did Before

What Other People Did Before

The original "Trio" was Trio A, choreographed in 1966 by Yvonne Rainer. It was a minimalist, pedestrian, and task-oriented piece. True to Rainer's "No Manifesto", it rejected many norms of modern concert dance.

Years later, in 2012, three members of the Franklin & Marshall Dance Company choreographed Trio B. To honor its predescessor, the choreography was organized but simple. However, there was one key difference- Trio B was comedic. as well.

In the spring of 2014, we decided to choreograph the next installment: a piece we called Trio C. We built on Trio A's minimalism and Trio B's apathetic wit, and added a few surprises of our own. With some choice props and the beat of Jennifer Lopez's Waiting For Tonight, we aimed to create a piece that was not only humourus, but subverted the expectations of our audience.

After working together on Trio C our last semester at college, we wanted to continue working together! Life, however, had taken us in opposite directions: Gwen to Athens, Ohio; Kat to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Nicole to London, Great Britain! We decided not to let geographic distance keep us from making work and creating together! Working under our dance company, Trio C, we will generate at least a minute's worth of material each month based on a pre-chosen prompt. Videos of the choreography will be uploaded to this blog where we (and others!) can discuss the processes and products of the month. Our ultimate goal is to create a longer work with our materials once we are living somewhat closer to one another.

We will be viewing each month's work as a snapshot: a quick peek at where each of us are at, right at that moment, in our lives. The prompt will steer us in some sort of direction, whether it be an emotive question or a list of generalized movement that must be included, or whatever!

This is where we are now. We invite you to join us.
